Dr Mai-Prochnow received a PhD in Microbiology from the University of New South Wales (Australia). She undertook a Marie Curie Fellowship at the Centre for Biomolecular Sciences at the University of Nottingham (UK) and was a Research Scientist at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Sydney, Australia. She is currently a Senior Lecturer at the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Sydney. Her research interests are in microbial biofilms and in particular methods to eradicate them. Dr Mai-Prochnow currently investigates the use of cold atmospheric pressure plasma as an antibacterial agent to remove biofilms from food and medical devices.
