Manuel Simões mainly investigates Biofilm, Microbiology, Antimicrobial, Antibiotics and Pseudomonas fluorescens. His work on Quorum sensing as part of general Biofilm research is often related to Distribution system, thus linking different fields of science. His work carried out in the field of Microbiology brings together such families of science as Listeria monocytogenes, Extracellular polymeric substance and Staphylococcus aureus.
His work deals with themes such as Phytochemical, Biotechnology and Mode of action, which intersect with Antimicrobial. His research integrates issues of Drug resistance and Chronic lung infections in his study of Antibiotics. His Pseudomonas fluorescens research is multidisciplinary, incorporating perspectives in Biophysics and Bacillus cereus.
