Dr. Xenia Kostoulias is a researcher and laboratory manager with the Department of Microbiology and The Department of Infectious Diseases, Monash University, Australia. Xenia is interested in virulence and mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in hospital acquired organisms, with a special interest in the contribution of biofilms to this process. Her research interests span across Gram-positive (S. aureus), Gram-negative (A. baumannii, P, aeruginosa, Enterobacter) and fungal pathogens (C. albicans, C. auris). Xenia uses a range of methods including, molecular microbiology and in vivo infection models as well as static and dynamic biofilm models to conduct her investigations. Xenia is also the Victorian state representative of the Australian Society of Microbiology Biofilm Special Interest Group.
